Ao Miyasaka
Ao Miyasaka
Born in 2000 in Matsumoto, Nagano.
A graduate of Professional University of Information and Management for Innovation (2025), Ao Miyasaka began their career as a contemporary artist during their studies, showcasing works and performances across major art hubs, including Tokyo, New York, Seoul, and Taiwan.
Deeply inspired by the powerful and meticulous aesthetics of Japanese heritage—such as Ukiyo-e, Wabori (traditional tattoos), and Kimono—Miyasaka’s practice focuses on visualizing social issues that are often overlooked or ignored. Their creative origin traces back to childhood, where they used keys to scratch letters and drawings into rough concrete walls. This primal act has evolved into a sophisticated signature style: a unique fusion of the raw energy of Graffiti and the intricate, tactile nature of Embroidery, alongside "Embroidery Graffiti."
In 2024, Miyasaka executed an intensive 8-hour mural performance in the heart of Shibuya Center-gai, starting at midnight on New Year's Day. This was followed by the creation of "SHIBUYA PUBLIC GRAFFITI 2024," a participatory project where the artist handed over sprays and brushes to a diverse, multinational public, transforming the street into a collective canvas.
Their work frequently confronts heavy themes such as generational poverty, domestic violence, and sexual assault. In March 2026, Miyasaka will debut their latest collection, "NIKUSEI" (The Raw Voice), at Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo.
